HERB CAEN

By the 1970s, Caen had a love / hate relationship with the youth culture.  On the one hand, he resented their flouting of traditional values; on the other hand, he noticed that they seemed to be having a lot more fun.  If he'd been born thirty-five years later, Caen might've joined up with them.

One Man's San Francisco (1976) is my personal favorite of Caen's books.
