This old postcard shows lower Market Street (from Second Street to the Ferry Building) as it looked for most of the twentieth century. By the early 1980s, however, glass skycrapers (which columnist Herb Caen thought resembled upright ice cube trays) had replaced most every building in this neighborhood.
