THE INTERSECTION OF MARKET, MASON
and TURK STREETS
Built shortly after the 1906 earthquake, this oddly-shaped building is the former Mechanics Savings Bank.  It has also been a Bank of Italy branch, and, during World War II, a recreation center of off- duty military personnel.
Right across Mason Street is the Hotel Metropolis, originally the Oxford.  They realize that a blank back wall is a terrible thing to waste.
