| Before the 1906 earthquake, what we now call "Portals of the Past" was the entryway to AJ Towne's mansion. After the quake, this columned porch was the only thing left standing on Nob Hill. Seen as a symbol of survival, it was moved to Golden Gate Park, where it has reflected in Lloyd Lake ever since. Like much of San Francisco, "Portals of the Past" is currently undergoing "seismic upgrade & repair." |
