| In 1902, the Dutch Windmill was erected at the west end of Golden Gate Park to pump fresh water into the park's irrigation system. It was a success, but over the next decade, advances in electric pumping technology made the windmill obsolete. The windmill fell into a sorry state of repair until it was restored in 1981. |
